Suzanne Kruisdijk
At a young age I graduated art school (G. Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam) and graphic design (Grafisch Lyceum, Amsterdam). Fascinated by handmade graphic work I delved into screen printing, etching, collage and mixed media techniques. Until I became captivated by linoleum printing and that’s where my small printmaking business actually started.
The tiny bird in the left upper corner of the website is my logo and (of course!) originally made with linoleum. It was actually one of the first linoleum pieces I made. Creating beauty, working with my hands and exploring materials: I cannot imagine my life without this creative process. I am a huge fan of color and love the traditional craft. That is why I think making linoleum prints fits me so well and keeps fascinating. It fulfills my desire for slow living. The handmade process gives enormous joy and it is intriguing and satisfying to master and further develop the technique. I find it interesting to look for ‘the edges’ and the possibilities of the linoleum material and printmaking. Years of practice, with dedication, perseverance and plenty of room for experimentation have brought me to the point where I can translate my vision into ink on paper.
My work primarily focuses on nature themes. The reduction linoleum prints for me are the ultimate opportunity to make my own experience visible to others, colours, layering, beauty. This way I hope to inspire people the way I see the fascinating beauty of nature. All of my prints are designed, carved, and pressed by hand with a lot of love and attention at my Hoorn-based studio.
